Field Interviewers - Multiple locations across the El Dorado National Forest

Chico State Enterprises, the nonprofit auxiliary of California State University, Chico, partners with the U.S. Forest Service to manage the National Visitor Use Monitoring Program (NVUM) across California's 18 national forests.

We seek motivated, curious field interviewers to count and survey recreation users at forest areas, trailheads, picnic areas, wilderness areas, campgrounds, and scenic highways. This field-based role includes extensive travel, driving to assigned sites, preparing survey locations, conducting six-hour visitor interviews, and completing brief summary reports.

PROJECT LOCATION:

·        FY27 (October 1, 2026-September 30, 2027): El Dorado, Stanislaus, and Sierra National Forests

Qualifications (Required):

Strong candidates will have:

·        Valid driver’s license and ability to complete defensive driver training

·        Ability to navigate using maps, GPS, & offline methods.

·        Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills

·        Positive attitude and ability to work independently at remote field sites for extended periods

·        Ability to comfortably speak with forest visitors and follow survey protocols

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Previous coursework or work experience in forest recreation and/or survey methods

·        Outdoor/camping experience; first aid or related training preferred

·        Knowledge of safe driving practices in remote, mountainous areas
