Memorial Sloan Kettering - Immunology Research Summer Program (IRSP) (paid with housing available)
Program Overview
The MSK Immunology Research Summer Program (IRSP) aims to inspire and prepare the next generation of immunologists through immersive, hands-on training and mentorship in areas of immunology, cancer immunobiology and immunooncology. This 10-week program is designed to bring outstanding biology, immunology, and biochemistry undergraduate rising juniors, and seniors interested in pursuing a career at the intersection of immunology, biology and oncology to pursue a research experience at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Program Timeline
Nov 3, 2025: Application portal opens
February 2, 2026: Application closes at 8am EST
Offers will be made no later than March 15, 2026
June 1, 2026: Program begins
August 7, 2026: Program concludes
Students who are accepted into the IRSP will:
Adapt their immunobiology skills to answer biomedically-focused research questions in cutting-edge laboratories
Interact with faculty, postdoctoral researchers and graduate students
Attend luncheon/seminar series of presentations by faculty
Attend professional development workshops
Present a poster on their work at the end of the program
Students will receive a stipend of $6,500 for the 10-weeks, generously sponsored by the Marie-Josee Kravis Center for Cancer Immunobiology. Housing is available.
Areas of Research
Students will work with faculty in immunology and/or immuno-oncology labs. Hosting faculty will be conducting research in diverse areas of biomedical sciences related to immunology and cancer immunobiology, and will welcome the added expertise provided by biology, biochemistry, and immunology undergraduates.
How to Apply
Current undergraduate sophomores and juniors attending a US accredited institution who are majoring in immunology, biochemistry, biology, or related fields are invited to apply to IRSP. Applications will open in early November.
We strongly encourage students from groups historically underrepresented in science (disadvantaged, disabled, Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American) to apply.
Application Considerations
Should have a minimum GPA of 3.0
Completed courses in general biology and chemistry and taken some advanced science courses
Have an interest in the intersection of immunology and cancer and previous research experience
Two letters of recommendation must also be submitted via the online submission system. These letters should be written by faculty members who are familiar with the applicant’s academic progress and credentials.
In addition to the application form and an admissions essay, applicants should upload and submit an unofficial transcript from their college or university directly into the application system. (Only those accepted into the internship will need to submit an official transcript after acceptance).
